Trekking to Everest Base Camp is one of the aims of life for many adventure lovers in the world. Everest Region is the most popular trekking destination in Nepal. With the Mt. Everest (8848 m., Sagarmatha in Nepali and Chomolongma in Tibetan language) there are also several other peaks Nuptse (7861 m.), Lhotse (8414 m.), Lhotse Shar (8393 m.) in this closed amphitheatre as well as a host of spectacular supporting mountains.
But Everest Region is not only high mountains it is also rich with the Sherpa culture, traditional villages and ancient monasteries. The path leads through the Sagarmatha National Park the national park situated in the highest altitude in the world abundant with high-alpine wildlife, that include the Himalayan tar, musk deer, pikka or mouse hare and rare birds like snow crow, snow pigeon and pheasant. The path also leads to Dudh Koshi valley and forests of blooming rhododendron, blue pine and fir.

Trek to Everest Region can be done from 4 days minimum to a month or more. In 4 days one can reach to a Sherpa village called Namche Bazaar (3450m.) and back to Kathmandu. In 1 week one can go to Tengboche (3860 m.) and can see Mt. Everest (8848m.) the highest mountain in the world. For 14 days one can reach Kalapatthar (5550m) with Everest Base Camp (5364 m), in 21 days trek one can go to Chola Pass (5330 m) via Gokyo Lake (a beautiful lake situated in 4790 m.) with Kalapatthar and Everest Base Camp. If starts from Jiri will take 6 ? 7 days extra time than starting from Lukla.
Also there are many options for side trips in this region. So, trekking to Khumbu region can be done as many ways and days as you desire. For short holiday people fly to Lukla (2840 m.) is an idle idea. The flight takes 35 minutes and offers spectacular view of Himalayan Ranges if you sit left side window of aircraft while entering and right while leaving Lukla. The first day you can walk (3 ? 4 hours) up to Phakding (2610 m.). Almost all the people don?t feel any high altitude symptoms at Phakding, drinking more fluids is recommended.
Those having long holidays and wiling to explore Khumbu thoroughly love to trek from Jiri (1955 m.) which is almost a whole day drive from Kathmandu. View of terrace land, Himalayas, local people activities, river etc can be interesting on the drive to Jiri.
Trekking to Khumbu Region can be difficult if your guide is inexperienced and management is poor. Otherwise this trek is taken as a most beautiful and enjoyable trek by our clients whoever been there. You do not need any sort of advanced training as well as don?t need to be very sportive.
Flights and lodges are heavily booked in high season so it is better you reserve your seat in advance as early as possible. During summer frequently and also sometime in winter there are possibilities of flight cancel by bad weather. So, it is better if you do city sight seeing and shopping after the trekking.
Possibilities are there to meet Maoist if you choose your trek from Jiri only. And in case in meeting them guide deal with them by paying some amount of donation. Until today, there is not found even a single case that any tourist is hearted by Maoists and if you start and end your trek at Lukla there is not any chance to meet them.
